Course
Title:
Welding
of Metals
10
Professional Development Hours/1.0 CEUs
Course
Description: The Welding of Metals Course will help in
the understanding of the complexity of the metallurgy of welding and the
significant aspects that can produce better weldments, proper welding
operations and practices. A description of some of
the most widely used methods of welding are also discussed. The welding
operation can be a conventional method or an automated system, subject to
the kind of material and the design of the product. Considerations are given
when deciding to choose between the two systems, automated vs.
conventional.
Overall Course Objectives:
- Learn the terminology and basic metallurgy of welding.
- Recognize advantages, disadvantages and the typical applications for
various welding techniques.
- Develop
an understanding of how robotics are used in a variety of welding
operations.
Course Content:
Lesson 1 - Welding Fundamentals and Pressure
Welding Methods
Objectives:
- Name
the three major processes of resistance welding that are most
prevalent for industrial applications and describe each.
- Understand
the importance of welding safety, and recognize the hazards, factors
and precautionary measures to consider.
- Define
pressure and fusion welding and list the methods used for each.
Lesson 2 - Fusion Welding Methods
Objectives:
- List
the types of fusion welding processes and the specific applications
for each.
- Develop
an understanding of the similarities and differences between the types
of arc welding and oxyfuel gas welding methods.
- Define
non-destructive testing (NDT) and under what circumstances it is used.
Lesson 3 - Automated Welding
Objectives:
- List
some of the factors to be considered for automated welding.
- Describe
the three general configurations of a work cell that are used in
automated welding.
- Name
the two main types of lasers used for welding and recognize the
advantages of their use.
