Course
Title:
Noise,
Vibration and Harshness (NVH) Testing
10
Professional Development Hours/1.0 CEUs
Course
Description: Within the Noise, Vibration and
Harshness Testing course, the basic physics of each, and why some NVH
problems are so hard to solve are covered. The course goes on to discuss
the different testing and modeling methods available today and the impact
they are having on the quality of the vehicles. The importance of building
good NVH into the design process is covered, along with understanding
possible problems, and how to avoid them.
Overall Course Objectives:
- Understand the importance of considering noise, vibration, and
harshness (NVH) in the design phase.
- Distinguish how to avoid the most common problems of NVH, and why
they can be difficult to solve.
- Explore automotive problems in the real world of manufacturing.
Course Content:
Lesson 1 – Introduction
Objectives:
- Name
the two most important concepts when dealing with structural
vibrations.
- List the five categories of NVH for automotive problems, and define
each.
- Recognize the procedural and technical problems of NVH that are
difficult to solve.
Lesson 2 – Basic Physics, Vibrations and Acoustics
Objectives:
- Understand the basics of physics.
- Gain a basic understanding of vibration and acoustics.
- Interpret the mathematical equator of natural frequencies.
Lesson 3 – Examples of Automotive Problems, Testing
Objectives:
- Identify examples of automotive NVH problems including the
following: ride comfort, sound quality, and component durability.
- Explain
how sensors are used in the testing of vibration or acoustic testing.
- Gain knowledge of vibration and acoustic testing, and interpret the
results.
Lesson 4 – Modeling, Building Good NVH Into the
Design Process
Objectives:
- Recognize
steps in developing a good model and gain knowledge on the use of
analysis tools in NVH.
- Understand the common problems of NVH and how to avoid them.
- Explain the importance of good metrics and product baseline data.
