Plastics Manufacturing and Processing course explains the fundamentals of
injection molding, blow molding, and extrusion.
The processes are described, as well as the equipment used in these
manufacturing methods.
Plastic part design and tooling design are also presented.

the essentials of the various blow molding processes.

Lesson 1 - Injection Molding
Objectives:
- Identify
the advantages and disadvantages of the injection molding process.
- Recognize
the different types of equipment used in injection molding.
- List
the simple factors that control the injection molding process.
Lesson 2 - Blow Molding
Objectives:
- List
the different types of blow molding and state the advantages and
disadvantages or each.
- Differentiate
between machines and cast molds, and describe their components.
- Define
the term blow ratio and understand how it affects part wall thickness.
Lesson 3 - Extrusion
Objectives:
- Explain
the advantages and disadvantages of using the extrusion process.
- Describe
the processes that use extrusion to manufacture plastic parts.
- Develop
an understanding of the equipment used for plastics extrusion.

Design of Plastic Parts
Objectives:
- Recognize
stages of the basic part design process, and how to determine service
life requirements.
- Understand
the design basics of plastic
part structures such as ribs, bosses, undercuts, cored holes, fillets
and radii.
- List
the critical concepts for injection molded part design.

Tooling
Objectives:
- Understand
the terminology and components used in building injection molds.
- Differentiate
between a two plate mold and a three plate mold.
- Identify
the functions of slide cams, core pulls, and lifters.
