Course Description: The Industrial Finishing and Decorating course explains many of the ways in which plastic parts may be painted or finished, including painting, pad and screen printing, hot stamping, insert molding and chrome plating. The equipment and processes are described as well as the many steps involved in the chrome plating process. The course ends with a discussion of weathering processes and test methods.

Lesson 5 - Weathering of Plastics and Colors

Objectives:

  • List the three main constituents of weathering and recognize the damaging effects they have on polymers.
  • Gain knowledge of the weathering resistance of several polymer families, and how to improve the ability to withstand weathering effects.
  • Explain the difference between natural and accelerated weathering.
