Course
Title: Hot
Runner Systems
6
Professional Development Hours/0.6 CEUs
Course
Description: The
Hot Runner Systems course discusses the different varieties of
hot runner systems. The cost of the tool, its reliability, the level of
cosmetics on the resultant parts, and production quantities expected, as
the basis of choosing the right system for a specific application are
discussed.
Overall Course Objectives:
- Identify the different components of a hot runner molding system,
along with the function of each.
- Differentiate the main hot runner molding techniques.
- Gain an understanding of the types of gating, and the reasons for
their use in hot runner molding.
Course Content:
Lesson 1 - Introduction, Hot Runner System Components
Objectives:
- Compare traditional cold runner systems to hot runner systems.
- Recognize situations where cost savings inherent in hot runner
designs, turn the expense into an economical advantage.
- Identify a hot runner system and its components.
Lesson 2 - Design of Hot Runner Systems
Objectives:
- Identify
the steps in the analysis of comparative cost in using hot runners
versus conventional molding techniques.
- Describe
an insulated runner system.
- Differentiate between an internal and external heated system, and
list the three factors critical to design of the heated runnerless
system.
Lesson 3 - Sprues, Manifolds and Nozzles, Gating in
Hot Runner Systems, Troubleshooting Guidelines
Objectives:
- Describe
the functions of the sprues, manifolds and nozzles in the hot runner
system.
- Identify
gating methods used in hot runner molding along with their advantages
and limitations.
- Recognize
common problems that may occur during hot runner molding operations
along with cause & solutions.
