Course Content:

Lesson 1 - Introduction and Urethane Foam Chemistry

Objectives:

Recognize common automotive applications that use polyurethane foam.

Describe how polyurethane foams are produced, and identify the polyurethane polymer-forming exothermic reaction.

List additives commonly added to foam formulations and state the advantages of their addition.

Lesson 2 - Formation, Properties and Manufacturing of Foam

Objectives:

Differentiate the two different types of density that can be measured for foam.

Recognize the different types of tests that are used to measure the physical properties of foam.

Identify processing methods typically used for flexible foams and polyurethane foams.

Lesson 3 - Foam Applications

Objectives:

Identify typical foam applications of energy absorbing, structural, and mechanical foam applications.

Recognize the advantages of using foam for energy absorbing, structural, and mechanical components.

Define the typical properties, application design, and processing of reinforced foam applications.
