Course
Description: The Blow Molding Course explains the
essentials of the various blow molding processes and how they differ from
the injection molding process. The molds are described to foster an
understanding of their use in producing plastic parts. Examples of
real molded parts are also shown to promote knowledge of the blow molding
process.
Overall Course Objectives:
Course Content:
Lesson 1 – Introduction, Types of Blow Molding, Extrusion Blow Molding Machines
Objectives:
- List the different types of blow molding, and state the advantages and disadvantages of
each type.- Compare the injection molding process and the blow molding process.
- Name the two basic mandrel/die types, and describe how they greatly affect the
size and shape of the parison.
Lesson 2 – Blow Molds, Control of Part Wall Thickness, Blow Molding Materials, Processing
Objectives:
- Describe machined molds and cast molds, used for blow molding, and their components.
- Develop an understanding of the importance and considerations that will allow for greater
blow ratio.- Explain how parison programming and die sloping is performed in order to control wall
thickness of the finished part.
Lesson 3 – Troubleshooting Applications of Blow Molding
Objectives:
- Identify the cause & solution to problems that occur in the blow molding processes.
- List the 3 main ways to have the parison move in more than 1 axis in a 3D blow molding application.
- Identify several automotive applications for blow molding.
