Course Title: Advanced Injection Molding Processes

Course Description: The Advanced Injection Molding Processes Course contains discussions on two process technologies. The first technology discussed is called Multi-Live-Feed molding, more commonly referred to as the Scorim^TM process (Scorim is an acronym for Shear Controlled ORientation Injection Molding). The second technology discussed is called Pulsed Mold Temperature Control. Information on the equipment, hardware, benefits and limitations on both process are also discussed. Several cases studies detailing applications in which these processes are also included.

Overall Course Objectives:

Understand the technology of the SCORIM process (melt manipulation in the mold).
Gain knowledge about the Pulsed Mold Temperature Control process.
Recognize the advantages and limitations of the advanced injection molding techniques.

Course Content:

Lesson 1 - Introduction

Objectives:

Gain knowledge on the Multi-Live-Feed molding process, and recognize advantages and limitations.

Develop an understanding of the Pulsed Mold Temperature Control technique, along with
the equipment used in the process.

List benefits and limitations of the Pulsed Mold Temperature Control process.

Lesson 2 - Multi-Live-Feed Molding

Objectives:

Identify factors attributing to the creation of weld lines in molded parts.

Describe the function of the head, controller, and power pack that are used in the Scorim process.

Recognize part and tool design considerations for Multi-Live-Feed molding including: gate location and size, part ejection, and surface finish.

Lesson 3 - Pulsed Mold Temperature Control

Objectives:

Understand conventional mold temperature control, and recognize changes that may easily upset process equilibrium.

Develop an understanding of a typical molding cycle from a pulsed temperature system.

Identify mold design and mold installation considerations for Pulsed Mold Temperature
Control.
