Course Title: Adhesives and Sealants

14 Professional Development Hours/1.4 CEUs

Course Description: The Adhesives and Sealants Course describes the mechanisms, which can be postulated to explain the adhesion of one material to another: (1) mechanical interlocking, (2) electrostatic attraction (3) interdiffusion and (4) adsorption and surface reaction. Mechanical interlocking can certainly be a significant factor in adhesion. Another topic of discussion is the dominating adhesion mechanism, especially in the absence of reactive groups, is the electrostatic attraction between the polar groups of the adhesive to the adherends and to each other.
